On a recent stay in Europe, I was impressed by the rich history, which was revealed to me visually through physical layers. My drawings record their own history through the layering of marks at various stages.
Beyond historical context, many of the objects that I encountered in Europe had a direct impact on me. Harlaxton Manor, a towering one hundred room home, both consumed and loomed over me during my four-month stay. Although, I had seen the structure through pictorial representation, I was not prepared for the reality of its enormousness.
Similarly, my drawings strive for a reality that is anti-graphic. I hope they become unique and singular objects whose quality rests in first-hand experience. My work acknowledges “objectness” and pays homage to object induced psychological experience that accedes validity from a primordial-perceptual heritage.
